QC Supervisor jobs description

The quality control department of an organization ensures that incoming materials are suitable for production. QC inspectors monitor incoming materials, parts in-process and final products before shipment to customers. A quality control supervisor directs the activities of the inspectors and ensures that specifications and quality procedures are followed during the inspection of parts and processes.

1. Function

   • The supervisor of the QC department is responsible for the hiring and training of quality control inspectors and staff. The quality department inspects product to ensure that it meets specifications and alerts production when parts are not. The QC inspection catches substandard parts, which can point out when a process or machine is not functioning properly.

   Job Duties

   • The quality control supervisor directs the work of inspectors involved in evaluating incoming materials and products during the production process. The quality supervisor develops the quality control procedures and analyzes the data from inspection reports. A supervisor must resolve quality problems as they are revealed through inspection procedures.
     The QC supervisor works with purchasing in evaluating vendors for compliance to quality standards. Inspection data from quality control processes can identify problems with vendors or materials used in production.
     Quality supervisors schedule inspectors and ensure that production departments have audits of the processes and parts. The person in the supervisor position hires and trains inspectors in the quality department.

   Skills

   • A quality control supervisor must be able to manage employees and have verbal and written communication skills. The supervisor of the quality department must be familiar with inspection processes and procedures as well as the test and measuring equipment used during quality inspections.

   Education

   • A quality control supervisor must have a bachelor's degree. Many employers require QC supervisors have the degree in engineering and experience in quality control.

   Salary

   • Salary.com reports the median salary for a quality control supervisor is $48,750 as of November 2009. Salaries for QC supervisors are based on experience, education and the industry.
